In Washington, the numbers indicate that monthly recreational marijuana sales more than doubled to hit nearly $7 million in August vs. $3.2 million in July. (Note: The July number is lower than a previously reported figure of $3.8 million. It also only includes data for part of the month, as sales began July 8). The state collected $2.5 million in cannabis-related excise taxes during the first two months of sales, according to the latest data.
These numbers are expected to increase, as more production warehouses come on line as they are inspected and issued production licenses. Also, being a crop, retail marijuana will see more consistent production as producers refine farming techniques.
