Almost a year after Washington State voters passed I-502, the Washington State Liqueur Control Board has finally announced the lottery winners of the coveted retail marijuana licenses.
With only 21 retail licenses allocated for all of Seattle and over 170 applicants whom qualified, the vetting has only started. There will be secondary inspection which will include background checks, review applications and ensure the retail locations meet regulations. Retail shops must abide by the 1,000-foot rule, which dictates how far away these shops must be from schools, playgrounds, parks and other public spaces.

As the cogs continue to turn, we should expect the first stores to open some time in July.
