Over a year and a half after Washington State citizens voted to legalize the retail sales of marijuana, the Washington State Liqueur Control Board will be ready to randomly draw the names of Washington States first marijuana retailers.
Starting May 2, the first winners of the retail lottery will be notified of their license approval. Although the WSLCB also expects a few shops to open by July, most retailers who are granted the license are expected to open their doors some time during late summer early fall.
With more than 2,100 applications submitted in Washington for the retail license. This total was whittled down after hundreds failed to complete their application sufficiently, and another hundred for failing background checks. While this increases the other applicants chances, best estimates give most applicants a 10% chance of winning the lottery.
The uncertainty of it all has both newbies to the market and those trying to transition out of medical and into retail biting their nails. Clarity though, is on the horizon.
